Clinton, S.C. - Gardner-Webb guard Dominique Hudson dished her away into the Gardner-Webb NCAA Division I record book on Monday night, as the junior guard became GWU's NCAA Division I career leader in assists in the Lady Bulldogs route of the Presbyterian College, 80-39 in Clinton, S.C.
The win pushed the Lady Bulldogs to 17 wins on the season, tying its total all of last season and the program's NCAA Division I record for most wins in a single season. Gardner-Webb also improved to 6-1 in conference play, including moving to 3-0 on the road in conference play.
In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs executed its game play from the start, as Gardner-Webb blew the game open with a 13-0 run, taking a 17-4 lead at the 12:49 mark and did not look back, running out to a huge 41-12 halftime lead.
Gardner-Webb held the Presbyterian College Blue Hose to only 12 points in the first half, a season-low for a GWU opponent thus far this season. The Lady Bulldogs defense was superb for the first 20 minutes of play, as Coach Reeves' squad picked up 13 steals, forced 19 Blue Hose turnovers and held Presbyterian College to only five made field goals, shooting 29.7 percent from the field.
The GWU defense fed into its offense, as the Lady Bulldogs shot 58.3 percent from the field, including going 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line, and tallied 20 points off of the 19 Presbyterian College turnovers.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Blue Hose 39-27 and pushed its lead up to has high as 42 points in the final minutes of the game, as all 13 players saw time in the contest.
For the game, Gardner-Webb dominated the contest on both ends of the floor, outscoring the Blue Hose 36-22 in points in the paint, 35-12 in points off turnovers, 16-8 in second chance points, 12-2 in fast break points and 43-19 in bench points.
The 18 team steals for the Lady Bulldogs ties the third most for a GWU team in a single contest, while the 41 point margin was the largest margin of victory for the Lady Bulldogs this season and the fourth largest in the program's NCAA Division I history.
Gardner-Webb's Monique Hudson led the way with 18 points in only 18 minutes of action, while senior Margaret Roundtree had 15 points and six rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Teonika Webb had a season-high nine points off the bench for Coach Reeves, while Dominique Hudson had a team-high four assists and eight steals, missing the single season record for steals in a single game by one theft.
Presbyterian College was led by Shonda Burnside and Dria David, who each had eight points apiece, while Mariah Pietrowski had seven points on 3-of-5 shooting. Burnside also had a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs will return home to host Coastal Carolina on Saturday, January 30, at 4:30 p.m. as part of a double-header with the men's team who will host High Point University at 7 p.m.
Presbyterian College also returns to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Blue Hose will host Charleston Southern at 5 p.m.
