Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb picked up wins from Ryan Medved, Alex Medved, Jonathan Velazquez and Travis Porter, yet it wasn't enough as the VMI Keydets defeated GWU 22-15 in Bost Gymnasium on Friday night.

After dropping the first three matches and falling behind 9-0 to the Keydets, GWU's Ryan Medved got the Runnin' Bulldogs on the scoreboard using an escape and a good defensive game to pick up a 1-0 decision over Michael Young at 149.

Gardner-Webb's Alex Medved then scored a 13-2 major decision win over Nick Emison at 157 to move the Runnin' Bulldogs into two points of the Keydets at 9-7.

However, VMI picked up back-to-back wins at 165 and 174, including a 9-0 major decisions in at 174, to push the Keydets back in front at 16-7 with only three bouts left.

GWU's Velazquez remained perfect on the season, securing a 9-3 win in dominating fashion at 184 to pull the home team within six at 16-10.

Porter followed up Velazquez with a strong performance in which he controlled the match from start to finishing, including picking up several near falls, en route to a 16-0 technical fall win at 8:39 over Chris Gill at 197 to push GWU back into the match at 16-15.

Yet Porter was the last effort for GWU, as the Runnin' Bulldogs had to forfeit at 285, giving #19/#29 Josh Wine of VMI the 6-0 win and handing the Keydets a 22-15 match victory.

With the wins, Ryan Medved moves to 8-3 overall, while Alex Medved improves to 12-5 on the year, while also picking up his fourth major decision win of the season.

Velazquez stays unbeaten at 5-0 on the year, while Porter picked up his second tech fall win of the season and improves to 11-5 on the year.

VMI (2-0) will also return to action at the 2010 Southern Scuffle hosted by UNC Greensboro.
