BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb athletics department, in conjuction with head men's tennis coach Mike Griffith are pleased to announce the signing of three student-athletes that will continue their academic and athletic careers at Gardner-Webb University.
Gardner-Webb has added Blake Dunlap, Brendan Dempsey, and Stephan Martin to the roster for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Dunlap comes to Gardner-Webb from Mooresville, N.C., where he currently attends Statesville Christian School. Ranked in the top-30 among 18-year olds in North Carolina, he is also a member of the 2010 Who's Who and National Honor Society.
Dempsey, from Dublin, Ireland, is ranked Ireland's #1 junior player, and was the winner of the 18 and under National Indoor Tournament. He currently attends St. Michael's High School and plans to major in Accounting.
Martin, a native of Bray, Ireland, comes to GWU after winning the 18 and under National Spring Championships and finishing as runner-up in the 18 and under National Doubles Championships. He currently attends Presentation High School and plans to major in Accounting.
"One thing all of these student-athletes have in common is their excellent academic standing while in high school and that they are awesome team people" stated head coach Mike Griffith. "My experience as a coach has taught me that the most successful teams need support from their teammates, and this is what this class brings. I look forward to next season with these newcomers and our returners."
