Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb softball team returns home after an 18-game road trip this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host UNC Greensboro in a non-conference double header on Thursday afternoon before opening up Big South Conference play this weekend versus the Liberty Lady Flames on Saturday and Sunday at Varsity Field.

The non-conference double header with UNC Greensboro, which was added to the schedule only a few weeks ago, is slated for a 2 p.m. start on Thursday, March 22nd, at Varsity Field.

The conference series with Liberty will start with a double header at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th, and will conclude with the third and final game of the three-game series set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25th.

Last week, the Runnin' Bulldogs' bats came alive, as GWU recorded 22 runs on 29 hits over 11 innings to take a two-game twin bill sweep of S.C. State on Wednesday afternoon.  GWU won 13-4 and 9-0 in Orangeburg, S.C.

GWU is 5-2 over their last seven games, all of which have come without their sophomore ace Jessica Childers who is out with an injury.

Over their last 10-games, sophomore Samantha Meenaghan and senior Jane Savage are both hitting over .400, while freshman Mariana Gallardo and sophomores Elizabeth Williams and Emily Bowman have all played well when called upon, with each player hitting over .333 in spot starts.

Cindy Boomhower, who was the Big South Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago, has been strong in the circle for GWU as of late, as she is 2-1 with a 1.09 ERA, a perfect game and two complete games.  She has also posted one save and held her opponents to a .168 batting average over her last six appearances.

The UNC Greensboro Spartans are 9-18 overall on the season and 2-5 in true road contests.

UNC Greensboro, who will host N.C. A&T on Tuesday in a non-conference double header, enters play this week having lost two straight games.

As a team, the Spartans are hitting .237 overall on the season, while Alex Emeterio leads the way with a .333 batting average in 21 games on the season.

Liberty, who will host three games this week prior to traveling to Boiling Springs, N.C. for the three-game weekend series, enters play this week at 6-12 overall.

The Lady Flames are currently on an eight-game losing streak, as their last win was a 14-13 shootout over ETSU back on March 6th.

Liberty, who is 0-6 in true road contests thus far this season, are led by Kelby Allen (.381 avg.), Katie Zavodny (.360 avg.) and Kaylee West (.306 avg.) offensively.

Live stats for all five games this week will be available at www.gwusports.com.

The weekend series with Liberty is scheduled to be video streamed by the Big South Network, presented by State Farm, and can be viewed for a small fee.  To access the video feed you can go to www.bigsouthsports.com or to www.gwusports.com.
