Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb softball team will wrap up their 2012 regular season slate this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Presbyterian College in a twin tilt on Wednesday before hitting the road for a three-game weekend conference series at Radford on Saturday and Sunday in Radford, Va.
In GWU's regular season finale, the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Presbyterian in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25th, at Varsity Field.
Coach Cole and his squad will then hit the road to take on the Radford Highlanders in their final regular season games of the season. GWU and Radford will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with the third and final game coming on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a 2-1 series win over Charleston Southern, in which the Runnin' Bulldogs posted a doubleheader sweep of the Buccaneers on Saturday, Senior Day, before suffering a loss on Sunday afternoon.
GWU is 10-9 at home this season and will wrap up their home slate this Wednesday in a doubleheader versus PC. The game was originally scheduled last Wednesday, April 18th, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
GWU, who defeated PC 6-4 in Clinton, S.C. back on March 28th, is 8-8 in conference play, putting them in fifth-place overall with one week of games to play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 6-4 in their last 10 games, as Samantha Meenaghan has posted a .406 batting average with 13 total hits, an RBI and nine runs scored during that span, while right on her heels is McKenzie Morenus who has hit .360 with a home run, a double and seven RBI over her last 10 games.
The Presbyterian College Lady Blue Hose are 15-26 overall and have dropped six of their last eight games since sweeping Winthrop at home on April 6-7th. PC, who has gone 7-7 since falling to GWU back on March 28th, is only 6-10 on the road thus far this season.
The Lady Blue Hose are led by Shelby Petik, who is hitting .304 with two home runs, seven doubles and 14 RBI on the season, while Leslie Hensley leads the team with four home runs and 17 RBI on the year.
The Radford Highlanders enter play this week at 28-14 overall and 12-3 in the Big South Conference.
Radford, who will play both Virginia Tech and North Carolina on back-to-back days this week, have won four straight including a three-game conference series sweep over Winthrop last weekend.
Nichole Beall leads the Highlanders offensively, as she is hitting .375 with 11 home runs, 12 doubles, two triples and 25 RBI. In the circle, Jackie Jenkins leads the way with a team-high 13 wins, three saves and a team-low ERA of 2.05 on the year.
