Spartanburg, S.C. - In her very first intercollegiate tournament of her career, Gardner-Webb freshman Mary Katherine Donovan took first-place overall and helped to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a second-place team finish at the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College at the par-72, 5,972-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.

The Gardner-Webb women's golf team, who carded a then tournament record team-low round of 294, +6, on Monday, turned in a second round team score of 303, +15, on Tuesday, to finish in second-place overall with a two-day combined team score of 597, +21, and two strokes behind the team winner in UNC Pembroke. 

Donovan followed up her tournament record setting 68, -4 under par, first round on Monday, with a 75, +3, second round on Tuesday, to finish with a two-day combined score of 143, -1 under par, placing her in first-place overall by one stroke.

Donovan's score of 143, -1 under par, is a Terrier Intercollegiate 36-hole record.

Gardner-Webb seniors Meghan Allum, who posted rounds of 72 and 76 to finish in a tie for eighth-place overall at 148, +4, and Lauren Smith, who turned in rounds of 77 and 73 to finish in a tie for 15th-place overall at 150, +6, both posted top-15 finishes overall.

Fellow seniors Sammy Vass and Hannah Hellyer each recorded a 79, +7, on Tuesday, which put Vass in a tie for 27th-place overall at 156, +12, and Hellyer in a tie at 50th overall with a two-round combined score of 161, +17.

Playing as an individual for the event, junior Pilar Morgan carded rounds of 80 and 81 to finish in a tie for 50th-place overall at 161, +17.

UNC Pembroke carded a team round of 294, +6, on Tuesday to come up from third-place overall and win the event by two strokes.  UNC Wilmington took third-place with their two-round combined team score of 602, +26, while the host institution Wofford College finished in fourth-place with their score of 604, +28.

The women's golf team will return to the links in two weeks, as Gardner-Webb will tee-off at the Highlander Invitational on Sunday, September 23rd, at the Draper Valley Golf Club in Draper Valley, Va.
