Buies Creek, N.C. - GWU's Michael Slaughter, Travis Porter and Dustin Porter all went 2-0 on Saturday at the 2010 East Regional Dual meet hosted by Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., as the Bulldogs split its two matches on the day.

With both Pennsylvania schools, Duquesne and Millersville, unable to make the meet due to the heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions, the 2010 East Regional Dual meet became a match between three schools in Gardner-Webb, Liberty and Campbell.

Both the Campbell Fighting Camels and the Liberty Flames weighed in two squads, an A and a B squad, giving the all day event five competing teams.

In the first match of the day, the Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead with a win at 125, yet picked up only two more wins for the rest of the bout, falling to Liberty's A Squad 31-9.

Junior transfer Michael Slaughter picked up a 9-3 decision win over Liberty's Jonathan Childress at 125 to kick off the match, putting the Bulldogs up 3-0 early.  However, Gardner-Webb would drop the next seven matches in a row, including two pin falls, two major decisions and a technical fall to fall behind the Flames 31-3.

With the match already over, the Bulldogs still refused to throw in the towel, as brothers Travis Porter and Dustin Porter won back-to-back bouts at 197 and at the heavyweight position.

At 197, redshirt-freshman Travis Porter defeated Brandon Johnson of Liberty 3-1 in sudden death overtime.

Redshirt-senior Dustin Porter followed his younger brother up with a 2-1 win over Joshua Pelletier of Liberty at the heavyweight position, ending the match on a good note for the Bulldogs and put the final match score at 31-9 in favor of the Flames.

Gardner-Webb faced off with Campbell's Black B Squad team in its second match of the day, dominating the match from start to finish by way of two pin fall wins, one technical fall win, a major decision and four forfeit victories, en route to a 45-9 win.

After Slaughter picked up a forfeit win at 125 to start the match and the Bulldogs suffered a pin fall loss at 133, the match score was knotted up at 6-6.

That's win the Bulldogs began to take control of the match, as after a Morgan McDaniel forfeit win at 144, Ryan Medved picked up an 11-1 major decision win at 149, followed by a pin fall win by his brother Alex Medved over Darien Peele at 157.

An injury default victory by David Pelsang at 165 and a GWU loss at 174, the Bulldogs still had a large lead at 28-9 with three bouts remaining.

The upper weight classes belonged to the Bulldogs, as redshirt-junior Jonathan Velazquez pinned Jeff Cote at 2:57 at 184, while Travis Porter picked up a 16-0 technical fall win over Justin Sparrow at 197.

GWU's Dustin Porter ended the match with a forfeit win at the heavyweight position, putting the final score at 45-9 in favor of the Bulldogs.

With the split, the Bulldogs improve to 4-12-1 on the season in dual matches.

With his two wins on Saturday, Dustin Porter pushes his winning streak to 10 in row and improves to 29-4 on the year, while Alex Medved picked up his 18th win of the season.

The Bulldogs will return home to face off with both The Citadel and Newberry on Monday night, February 15, in Paul Porter Arena.  The matches are slated to start at 6 p.m.
