BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb head coach Rick Scruggs and his staff will coach barefoot Saturday night in the team’s game against High Point in support of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Barefoot for Bare Feet Promotion benefiting Samaritan’s Feet.
Others involved with the game – including the Gardner-Webb cheerleaders and dance team – will also participate barefoot during the game, which tips off at 8:00 pm and will air live on MASN as part of the Big South Conference’s television package. As part of the promotion, any person who donates $5 or a pair of athletic shoes to Samaritan’s Feet that evening will receive free admission to the game. Locations will be available at Paul Porter Arena to collect donations and shoes. Fans can also donate $5 to the cause by texting “Bulldogs” to 85944. Gardner-Webb’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which is made of of delegates from each of the school’s varsity sports teams, has set a goal to collect a total of 1,000 pairs shoes from donors. Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing lives through Shoes of Hope distributions around the world. Over 300 million people wake up each morning without a pair of shoes to protect their feet from injury and disease. The goal of Samaritan’s Feet is to provide shoes to 10 million of these individuals in the next 10 years – by teaching them a biblical story of faith, hope and love.
