Dominique Hudson had a team-high 14 points, none more important than a three-pointer with 19 seconds left twhich gave GWU a 57-56.

Lynchburg, Va. - Gardner-Webb junior guard Dominique Hudson hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 18.7 seconds remaining in the contest to put the Lady Bulldogs up 57-56 and propel GWU past the Liberty Lady Flames 59-56 on Monday night in Big South Conference action.

Senior Margaret Roundtree hit two big free throws with 7.2 seconds left on the game clock to seal the 59-56 road conference win over the Lady Flames in Lynchburg, Va.

The win moves Gardner-Webb to 19-3 overall, 8-1 in the Big South, and gives the Lady Bulldogs sole possession of first-place in the Big South regular season standings.

The win snaps the Lady Flames 10 game-winning streak and its 17 conference home game-winning streak, as Liberty had not lost at home in conference play since February 4, 2007.

GWU also becomes only the second Big South Conference team to pull over a regular season sweep of the Lady Flames since Head Coach Carey Green came to Liberty 11 years ago.  The last time Liberty was swept in conference play was by High Point in 2006-07.

Like every contest between these two teams, the game was tight throughout as the first half saw five lead changes and one tie, yet Liberty held on to a slight 27-25 lead at the halftime break.

The second half started off the way the first half ended, as the Lady Flames pulled out an eight pulled lead at 33-25, capitalizing on a 13-0 run from the five minute mark of the first half.

After the Lady Bulldogs battled back to cut the Liberty lead to one at 33-32 on a three-pointer by Dominique Hudson with 15:47 to go in the game, the Lady Flames had yet another answer for the visiting team running out to a nine point lead at 46-37 with 11:42 left in regulation.

Liberty's nine point lead was the largest of the game, however, the Lady Bulldogs refused to go away, slowly picking at the Lady Flames lead, cutting it down to two points 54-52 with 2:09 to play.

A lay up by GWU's Monique Hudson with 1:24 left in regulation, knotted the score up at 54-54.

Liberty answered with a turnaround jump shot in lane by Avery Warley to put the home team back on top at 56-54 with less than a minute left to play.

With 19 seconds remaining on the clock, guard Dominique Hudson pulled up at the three-point line on the right wing and fired off an arching three-point shot over the outstretched hands of a Liberty defender, hitting nothing but net and pushing the Lady Bulldogs in front 57-56 with 18.7 on the clock.

Liberty's Amber Mays then took the ball the length of the court and put up a running lay up in the middle of the lane which came up short and was rebounded by GWU's Roundtree who was immediately fouled by Warley.

Roundtree stepped up to the charity stripe and calmly knocked down both free throws with seven seconds left on the clock to seal the win for the Lady Bulldogs at 59-56.

For the game, the Lady Flames out-rebounded GWU 33-27 for the contest; however, the Lady Bulldogs were 23-of-44 for 52.3 percent from the floor as a team, snapping Liberty's streak of holding its opponents under 50 percent shooting for the game at 105 contests.

Hudson led the way with 14 points and six assists, while fellow guard Courtney Epps had 13 points, going 5-of-10 from the field.  Also scoring in double-digit points was Monique Hudson with 11 points and Sandra Vaitkute with 10 points.

Liberty was led by its dynamic duo of Warley and Devon Brown, as both had double-doubles.  Warley had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Brown had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs will head back to the state of Virginia on Wednesday, February 10, as Gardner-Webb will take on the Radford Highlanders at 7 p.m. in the Dedmon Center, in a game that was originally scheduled for last Saturday afternoon but postponed due to the heavy snowfall in the Radford, Va. area.

Liberty will be off for a week before the Lady Flames will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to do battle with the Lady Eagles of Winthrop University on Monday, February 15, at 7 p.m.
