Boiling Springs, N.C. – Gardner-Webb University student-athletes had an outstanding semester in the classroom this past fall, with over half of the Bulldogs earning a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the semester.
In fact, 57.8 percent of the student-athletes had a 3.0 gpa or greater, while 42.6 percent were either on the Dean’s List or the Honor Roll.
In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student that is enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours and fewer than 15 must have a 4.0 Gardner-Webb grade point average, and students taking 15 hours or more must have a 3.7 or better gpa with no grade below a C.
For a student to be named to the Honor Roll, a student that is enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours and fewer than 15 must have a 3.5 gpa with no grade below a C, and students taking 15 or more hours must have a 3.2 but less than a 3.7 with no grade below a C.
Gardner-Webb proudly announced that 52 student-athletes had a 4.0 gpa during the 2009 fall semester, as 11 teams posted a team gpa of 3.0 or higher.
The women’s tennis team had the highest team gpa with a combined 3.6702, as four of the six team members had a perfect 4.0 gpa and five of the six were on either the Dean’s List or the Honor Roll.
Women’s swimming, which had the most 4.0 gpa’s with seven in the fall, also had the highest number of student-athletes honored, with 22 of its 29 members either making the Dean’s List or the Honor Roll. Baseball had 20 student-athletes named to either the Dean’s List or the Honor Roll, while men’s swimming had 16.
“We are extremely proud anytime our student-athletes excel in the classroom,” said Chuck Burch, Gardner-Webb’s Vice President for Athletics. “Their dedication to achieving a proper balance of success in athletics and academics is tremendous, and we hope to continually increase the level of success across the board in the future.”
