CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb won its first-ever Big South women’s basketball regular-season championship, and has earned the No. 1 seed in this week’s Advance Auto Parts Big South Women’s Basketball Championship, it was announced today by the League office. All games of the 2010 Advance Auto Parts Big South Women’s Tournament will be played at the Millis Center on the campus of High Point University. The Lady Bulldogs posted a 15-1 record in Big South play.
Liberty finished the Big South regular season with a 13-2 record to earn the No. 2 seed. High Point and Charleston Southern posted identical 9-7 League records, with the Panthers picking up the No. 3 seed by virtue of a coin toss as the last step in the tiebreaker procedure. Coastal Carolina and Winthrop also finished League action tied with 7-9 records, with the Chanticleers earning the No. 5 seed with its sweep of Radford during the regular-season to break the tie. Radford came in at the No. 7 seed with its 5-11 Conference record and UNC Asheville rounds out the seeding with a record of 3-13 in the Big South.
The 2010 Advance Auto Parts Big South Women’s Basketball Championship begins Friday, March 12 with four games, and continues with the semifinals on March 13 and the finals on March 14. The semifinals and finals will be televised on Sportsouth and MASN. The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
