Greensboro, N.C. - Gardner-Webb women's tennis was unable to make it three wins in a row Tuesday, dropping a road match at the hands of UNC Greensboro by a 5-2 margin.
The loss moves GWU to an even 3-3 on the season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to overcome an early deficit after dropping the doubles point. The freshman duo of Alice Hopkins/Yasmin Doost took the win for Gardner-Webb at the No. 2 doubles slot, outlasting Greensboro's team of Alex Whitehead/Dilara Yurtkuran 8-5.
Hopkins earned a hard-fought win for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the No. 2 singles position as well, taking down Yurkuran 6-7(7), 7-5, 10-6. The freshman from Birmingham, England has won the three straight at No. 2 and is 5-1 overall in singles competition this season.
Jenny Lunde also got a singles win for Gardner-Webb, outlasting Lucy Dougherty 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 to earn the victory at No. 4.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action this Friday to host the Wofford Terriers. The match is scheduled for a 2 pm start time.
