SERIES VS. LIBERTY
Gardner-Webb will hit the road one final time this weekend, as the Runnin' Bulldogs final two-game road trip will tip-off at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon against the Liberty Lady Flames in the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va. GWU will look to avoid the season sweep to the Lady Flames, as Liberty defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 78-51 back on January 30th in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Runnin' Bulldogs are still looking to make a late season run to claim a spot in the 2012 Big South Women's Basketball Championship Tournament come March, while the Lady Flames are looking to lockdown the number one seed for the postseason tournament and claim the Big South Regular Season Title. Liberty has won four out of the last five meetings between these two teams, with GWU's lone win coming in the 2011 Big South Championship Tournament title game a year ago. GWU is only 1-3 all-time in the Vines Center, while this season Liberty is 8-3 overall at home and 5-1 in conference play.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Sophomore center Catrina Green has been a double-double machine this season, as she has posted double digit points and rebounds in the same game 10 different times this season. Green, who prior to this season had only two double-doubles in her career, has scored in double figures in 18 different contests this season. She has also hauled down double digit rebounds in 11 games on the year. Green leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with an average of 11.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game on the year.
LAST TIME OUT
Gardner-Webb had four players score in double figures, however, it was not enough as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell on the road to the Longwood Lancers 76-65 on Monday night in non-conference action in Farmville, Va. Sophomore Catrina Green led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds, her 10th double-double of the season, while senior guard Brianna Dillard posted 11 points and 13 rebounds playing 30 minutes. Freshman guard KiKi Smith poured in 13 points and added five rebounds, while sophomore guard Jasmine Dale added 12 points in the loss. The Runnin' Bulldogs, who outrebounded Longwood 48-38 for the game and 17-14 on the offensive end, shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the floor, while the Lancers shot 37.5 percent (24-of-64) over the 40 minute contest. GWU outscored Longwood 28-26 in points in the paint and 39-21 bench points, yet the Lancers held an advantage of 21-12 in points off turnovers, as the Runnin' Bulldogs committed 25 for the game, and 11-9 in second chance points. The difference in the game came at the free throw line, as the Lancers shot 33 foul shots (24-of-33), while the Runnin' Bulldogs were 14-of-17 (82.4 percent) from the charity stripe.
