Lynchburg, Va. - Junior Erica White grinded out a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) win with the match on the line to propel Gardner-Webb women's tennis to a dramatic 4-3 win over Liberty on the road Friday.

The Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 6-4 (2-1) this season.

GWU got doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to secure a 1-0 lead over the Flames early in the match. The Runnin' Bulldog tandem of Ioana Oprea (Bucharest, Romania) and Jenny Lunde (Hoevik, Norway) took an 8-0 win over Liberty's Alexandra Sheeran/Carol Lobel at No. 1 doubles. GWU got the clinching win at No. 3 thanks to an 8-2 win from Erica White (Charleston, W.V.) and Ronia Hutterli (Duebendorf, Switzerland), as the duo cruised to a win over the Flames' Rebekah Jenkins/Jessie Boda.

At No. 2 singles, freshman Alice Hopkins (Birmingham, England) won her 7th straight singles match, taking a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Cameron Richard. Hopkins, undefeated in Big South singles thus far in 2012, has posted a 9-1 overall singles record this season.

After Liberty took the win at No. 3 singles to cut Gardner-Webb's lead to 2-1, Lunde completed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jenkins at the No. 4 position.

White got the clinching point for GWU, outlasting Sheeran at No. 1 to earn a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) triumph. The junior's match-clinching win came despite being down 4-1 in the third set tiebreak, as White won six straight points to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the win.

Gardner-Webb will look to continue keep its current three match winning streak going over spring break, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will play three matches at Hilton Head, S.C. next week. GWU faces Siena as well as Savannah State on Monday, March 12, and plays SUNY-Buffalo on Tuesday, March 13.
