Charlotte, N.C. - Three Gardner-Webb women's tennis players earned postseason honors from the Big South Conference, it was announced this evening at the awards ceremony held at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, as Alice Hopkins, Erica White, and Ioana Oprea each were honored.
The Big South tabbed Hopkins (Birmingham, England) as the Conference's Freshman of the Year.
Hopkins posted a 19-2 record in singles play, the most for a Gardner-Webb freshman under head coach Jim Corn. She was instrumental in Gardner-Webb's 4-4 Conference mark, as Hopkins went 7-1 in League singles action. Hopkins' 19 singles wins this season are the most for a Runnin' Bulldog player in the past four seasons. Oprea (Bucharest, Romania) was named to the Big South All-Academic Team, rewarding her hard work and dedication throughout her career as a student-athlete. On the court, Oprea was 16-4 in singles play, holding down the No. 3 spot throughout the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs. She added 9 doubles wins alongside Jenny Lunde this season.
