Charlotte, N.C. - Three Gardner-Webb women's tennis players earned postseason honors from the Big South Conference, it was announced this evening at the awards ceremony held at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, as Alice Hopkins, Erica White, and Ioana Oprea each were honored.

The Big South tabbed Hopkins (Birmingham, England) as the Conference's Freshman of the Year.

Hopkins posted a 19-2 record in singles play, the most for a Gardner-Webb freshman under head coach Jim Corn.  She was instrumental in Gardner-Webb's 4-4 Conference mark, as Hopkins went 7-1 in League singles action.  Hopkins' 19 singles wins this season are the most for a Runnin' Bulldog player in the past four seasons.  She helped the Runnin' Bulldogs in doubles play as well, teaming up with Yasmin Doost for a 10-9 record at No. 2 doubles.

Hopkins and junior Erica White (Charleston, W.V.) each earned All-Conference singles honors for their stellar play this season. White went 15-6 in singles play this season, all at the No. 1 position for GWU. She tacked on 13 wins alongside doubles partner Ronia Hutterli during the 2012 season.

Oprea (Bucharest, Romania) was named to the Big South All-Academic Team, rewarding her hard work and dedication throughout her career as a student-athlete. On the court, Oprea was 16-4 in singles play, holding down the No. 3 spot throughout the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs. She added 9 doubles wins alongside Jenny Lunde this season.

Gardner-Webb, the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Big South Tournament, takes on No. 4 Radford for a 1st Round matchup at approximately 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
