Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis program and Head Coach Mike Griffith have released the schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The schedule has the Runnin' Bulldog men competing in 10 home matches in the Spring of 2013, highlighted by 5 matches against fellow Big South members (Campbell, Mar. 5; Longwood, Mar. 17; Liberty, Mar. 23; Presbyterian, Mar. 25; UNC Asheville, Apr. 4) on Gardner-Webb's home court.
Coach Griffith's squad, which returns 8 of its 9 players from a freshmen-heavy team a season ago, will host the GWU Fall Classic Sep. 21-22 in its first competition of the Fall Season in 2012. GWU will also compete in the Wofford Invitational (Oct. 13-14) and the Winthrop Tournament (Nov. 2-4) as tune-ups for dual match competition in the Spring.
That Spring Season begins with a trip to West Point, N.Y. for the Army Tournament Friday, January 25 - Sunday, January 27. The Runnin' Bulldogs turn around with road matches at USC Upstate (Sat., Feb. 2) and at Davidson (Tue., Feb. 5) to open the month of February.
Gardner-Webb will compete in its first home match on Thursday, February 7 as it welcomes Augusta State to Boiling Springs.
After a road match at Wofford (Wed., Feb. 13), the Runnin' Bulldogs get Brevard (Fri., Feb. 15) and Charlotte (Wed., Feb. 20) at home.
GWU opens conference play on Saturday, February 23, as the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to take on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina. Coach Griffith's team turns around the next day, staying on the road to do battle with the Citadel (Sunday, February 24).
On Saturday, March 2, GWU sees its first home Big South tilt of the season, a 2:00 p.m. match vs. Campbell and the first in a string of six consecutive home matches (Campbell, UNC Greensboro, Texas Pan-American, Longwood, Liberty, and Presbyterian) for the Runnin' Bulldogs in March.
After a road match at conference rival Winthrop, GWU hosts its final 2013 match, taking on UNC Asheville on senior day.
Gardner-Webb will close out the 2012-13 season with consecutive road contests against Lees-McRae (Wed., Apr. 10), Appalachian St. (Fri., Apr. 12), and Radford (Sat., Apr. 13) prior to the Big South Tournament.
