BOILING SPRINGS – Notes and quotes from head coach Ron Dickerson, Jr., following his weekly meeting with members of the media and Bulldog Club Wednesday at the Bulldog Quik Snak.

On Saturday's Game
"Our guys are looking forward to getting conference started. Liberty is seen as a superior program and we're the stepchild in the attic. But I think this is the best, most even matchup we've had with them in a long time."

On Big South Conference play
"We start over this week. The first four games are over and the rest of our season is ahead of us. You have to play at a high level the rest of the way. All 11 guys are going to have to do their jobs to make things happen. We have gotten better, and we're ahead of where we were last season. It's time to focus in on the Big South and push forward."

On Liberty's defense
"They like to stay in their base and prove their front seven are better than your offensive line. They have good corners, big corners, so they'll play man and come at you. They've played a lot of people in the games we've seen."

On Sophomore Linebacker Tanner Burch
"Tanner has grown into a leader for us on defense. It shows you how tough it can be adjusting to college football. He played some as a freshman behind some veteran guys. Now it's his turn to step up and he has done a great job for us."

* Starting quarterback Lucas Beatty is expected at full strength for Saturday's game. Beatty made his first career start against Liberty last October 8 in Boiling Springs, forced into action suddenly due to injuries at the position.

* Saturday's game will be carried live on ESPN3 ( with kickoff set for 3:30. Gardner-Webb will now have four games this season to appear on ESPN's broadband video service. GWU played on ESPN3 on September 22 at Pittsburgh and will also appear on Nov. 3 vs. Coastal Carolina and Nov. 10 at Charleston Southern.

* Gardner-Webb and Liberty have opened Big South play against each other four times previously, with each team winning twice. GWU topped the Flames in Lynchburg in 2002 and 2006, lost to Liberty in Lynchburg in 2004 and lost last season in Boiling Springs.

* Saturday is homecoming in Lynchburg. Gardner-Webb was 2-1 when playing on homecoming dates last season, falling at Presbyterian, winning at Coastal Carolina and winning at home vs. Charleston Southern.
