BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb head coach Ron Dickerson, Jr., met with members of the media and Bulldog Club during his weekly press luncheon at the Bulldog Quik Snak on Main Street.

QUOTES

On The Third Quarter Against VMI
"There wasn''t any magic speech at all. I just asked them if they wanted to win the game we needed to go out and get focused in the second half and take care of business. We did a good job, got to play a lot of people and really put together a good all-around game. We are able to take advantage of opportunities, something we've worked all year to try and do. Other teams had done that against us early in the year."

On Things The Runnin' Bulldogs Can Improve Upon After A Big Win
"We need to continue to push forward and play all 60 minutes. We saw the good and bad [during film study and review] and we saw some places where we need to get better We almost had a punt blocked and we had some more opportunities to score but didn't finish a block. We want all 11 guys doing what they're supposed to do. We did see quite a few bright spots on Saturday. It was a good win."

On Coastal Carolina and any potential advantages of last year's 26-24 win
"They're a different team than last year and we're a different team. They are the hot team in the conference [after two-straight wins]. We can't dwell on last year. We've just got to go out, play good football and really execute."

On CCU's personnel
"They always have great defensive players, especially in the secondary. They're very aggressive back there. They ran one back 66 yards for a touchdown last week. That really got momentum going their way. The biggest weapon [on offense] is their quarterback [Aramis Hillary]. He gives their other players – running back, tight end, wideouts – a chance to make big plays. Against them, all 11 of us have to be sound."

NOTES
* Quarterback Lucas Beatty is the first GWU player to pass for 300 yards three times in the same season since Devin Campbell did so in 2008 against VMI, Stony Brook and Coastal Carolina in consecutive weeks.

* Tight end Seth Cranfill needs just one catch to tie the Big South's single-season receptions mark for a tight end, set by current Coastal Carolina sixth-year senior David Duran in 2009 (34).

* Gardner-Webb backup quarterback Exavier Johnson saw his first action of the season on defense against VMI, logging snaps at safety during the fourth quarter. The Lake Balboa, Calif.., native had a solo tackle, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass. Johnson has been seeing action on kickoff coverage in recent weeks.
