CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced its pairings for the 2013 ESPN Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event Monday night, and Gardner-Webb will travel to face Southern Conference member College of Charleston on Saturday, February 23.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (13-10, 5-4 Big South) will play the Cougars (16-7, 8-3 SoCon) for only the second time in program history. Gardner-Webb lost, 81-63, in Charleston on December 9, 2000 – GWU's first season of transition to NCAA Division I.

Charleston is one of the Southern Conference's most experienced and balanced teams, with guards Andrew Lawrence (13.9 ppg) and Anthony Stitt (10.8) pacing an offense that averages 65.3 ppg. The pair combines to average more than seven assists per game and has knocked in 55 percent of the team's 147 made 3-pointers this season. Up front, 6-foot-9, 225-pound sophomore Adjehi Baru averages 10.0 points and leads the team with 8.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. Juniors Willis Hall (7.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Trent Wiedeman (8.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Anthony Thomas (8.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg) provide plenty of firepower as well up front.

All six players have led the Cougars in scoring at least twice this season.

Coach Doug Wojcik's team has several strong results under its belt, including November wins over Boston College (71-67) and No. 21 Baylor (63-59). Charleston is 2-0 against Big South schools this season, nipping Charleston Southern by five on the road and beating Coastal Carolina, 60-51, at TD Arena in Charleston.

Gardner-Webb has won three games in a row – including two consecutively on the road – to position itself in the thick of the Big South Conference race. Wings Tashan Newsome (14.3 ppg) and Donta Harper (12.8 ppg) continue to lead the team's offensive efforts, and senior forward Kevin Hartley has emerged as one of the Big South's most efficient perimeter threats. Hartley is shooting a sizzling 50.6 percent from long range this season (45-of-89), and is shooting above 60 percent in league games from the bonusphere.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are 2-0 against teams from Charleston, S.C., so far this season – cruising to a 71-58 home win over The Citadel on December 15 and snapping Charleston Southern's 8-game win streak with a 74-73 overtime win on January 30.

A game time for the February 23 matchup has yet to be announced.

Gardner-Webb plays at Presbyterian on Wednesday, February 6, at 7:00 pm.
