Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb was unable to extend its win streak Thursday, dropping a 6-1 match to visiting Wofford at the Webb Tennis Complex in non-conference women's tennis action.
GWU moves to 1-3 overall with the loss early in the 2013 season.
To open the match, the Runnin' Bulldogs needed wins at both No.1 and No. 2 doubles. The tandem of Erica White and Jenny Lunde got Gardner-Webb off to a great start with a win at the No. 1 doubles position, taking the match by an 8-5 margin over Wofford's Evans/Lindqvist pairing.
At No. 2, Yasmin Doost and Rokia Sacko found themselves in a duel with the Terrier's Prystawski/Sanchez. Doost and Sacko dropped a tough match, 9-7, as Wofford picked up the win and the doubles point to go up 1-0 in the match.
GWU picked up a singles win at No. 1, as White improved her singles record to 4-0 on the season in defeating the Terriers' Sarah Evans. White, the reigning Big South Player of the Week, won by a 6-2, 6-1 margin on Thursday.
Wofford won by default at No.'s 2, 3, and 6 singles, and earned wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions to claim the overall match victory.
Gardner-Webb's next scheduled match comes this Saturday, February 23, when the Runnin' Bulldogs take on East Carolina in a 1:00 p.m. road match in Greenville, N.C.
