WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior righty Andrew Barnett hurled a complete game, four-hit shutout Saturday afternoon to lift Gardner-Webb to a 4-0 win over Stony Brook at the 2013 Hughes Brothers Challenge.

Barnett (1-0) fanned six and retired the final 10 batters he faced. The High Point, N.C., standout allowed just four singles and didn't walk a batter. He retired 18 of the last 19 men who stepped in the batters box to face him.

Barnett lowered his season ERA to 0.45 and posted his second complete game shutout of the season – this one coming against a team that advanced to the 2012 College World Series in Omaha.

Barnett's earlier gem came in a snow-shortened appearance against a Dayton squad that advanced to the 2012 NCAA Regionals.

Gardner-Webb (7-2-1) jumped on top with a run in the first and didn't trail. JJ Nazzaro singled to left to lead off the inning, moved to second on a Ryan Hodge bunt and scored on a two-out single from Brad Collins.

Nazzaro drove in the second run of the day for the Runnin' Bulldogs, following Scott Johnson's leadoff single in the fifth with a one-out knock to center for a 2-0 lead.

The Puyallup, Wash., junior laid down an infield bunt single with two outs in the seventh to spark Gardner-Webb's final rally. He swiped second base to get into scoring position and moved to third on a throw. Hodge walked to put a pair on board, stole second himself – and Scott Coleman roped a two-run single to right for a 4-0 lead.

The Runnin' Bulldogs collected 10 hits on the day, with Nazzaro (3-for-5, 2 runs, SB, RBI) leading the way. Hodge (2-for-3, 2B, run, SB) also had a multi-hit afternoon.

Coleman (1-for-5, 2 RBI), John Harris (1-for-4), Collins (1-for-4, RBI), Henry Rundio (1-for-4) and Johnson (1-for-4, run) had Gardner-Webb's other hits.

Stony Brook (0-8) got two of its four singles from Brett Tenuto (2-for-4). Starter Frankie Vanderka (0-2) took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Gardner-Webb will face host UNC Wilmington on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the final game of its weekend trip to the coast. The Seahawks beat Stony Brook, 3-2, in 10 innings Friday night and will play San Diego later Saturday.
