CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – Gardner-Webb senior Erica White (Charleston, W.Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, and teammate Rokia Sacko  (Montreal, Canada) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played April 1-7, it was announced today by the League office. 

White won four times at No. 1 singles, helping the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 3-1 record last week.  She opened her week with a 6-0, 6-2, win over Presbyterian’s Greer Ransom.  On Wednesday, she outlasted Alexandra Zinn of Charlotte, 6-4, 6-0.  White continued her winning streak by defeating Radford’s Taylor Newman (6-0, 6-3) and Longwood’s Marta Pinyol (6-1, 6-4).  In doubles play, White and partner Jenny Lunde downed tandems from Presbyterian, 8-3; Charlotte, 8-4; and Radford 8-1.  

Tuesday's announcement marks White's second Player of the Week honor this season. 

Sacko, playing at No. 5 singles, went undefeated in four contests last week.  In the match against Presbyterian, she defeated Lindsay Krause 6-0, 6-0.  She upended Iveta Guneva of Charlotte 6-3, 6-1, and Taylor Fay of Radford, 6-2, 6-3.  Sacko concluded her week with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Longwood’s Hannah Hill.  She and teammate Yasmin Doost also won at No. 2 doubles.  Sacko and Doost defeated Presbyterian’s duo, 8-4, and Charlotte’s pair, 9-7. 

The honor marks Sacko’s first Freshman of the Week nod of her career. 

Gardner-Webb wraps up the 2013 regular season at home on Saturday, April 13 against North Carolina Central. Winners of its past three home matches entering Saturday, the Runnin' Bulldogs are scheduled to play the Eagles at 1:00 p.m.
