DAVIDSON, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Kenny Cook was honored Monday as an honorable mention selection for FCS Receiver of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).

Cook (Cross Hill, S.C. / Clinton HS) hauled in a career-high nine passes in Gardner-Webb's 28-21 win over Furman, with those catches going for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Cook's five-yard diving catch in the end zone with 9:49 to play proved to be the game winner.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound standout outmuscled coverage for a 15-yard gain on a slant route earlier in that game-winning drive to get the ball down to the Paladin five-yard line. Six of his nine catches either went for a first down or touchdown Saturday, and a handful were of the spectacular variety.

Cook's diving, 54-yard reception in the second quarter moved Gardner-Webb out of the shadows of its own goalpost and flipped field position. His leaping, six-yard touchdown on a jump ball was Gardner-Webb's first score of the game, and capped an 84-yard drive. Cook was targeted three times on third down plays, and caught all three passes - once for a touchdown and twice for first downs.

The 100-yard performance was the third of his career at Gardner-Webb, which started last season. Cook has caught 57 passes for 779 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 career games with the Runnin' Bulldogs. Cook, a preseason All-Big South selection, was also named to College Football Performance Awards' preseason watch list at his position.

Gardner-Webb (1-0) travels to face Conference USA favorite Marshall at 6:30 pm on Saturday, September 7, in Huntington, WVa. The game will air live on WGWG-FM (88.3 / wgwg.org), with Fabian Fuentes calling the action.
