Spartanburg, S.C. - Junior Brendan Dempsey went 3-0 at Flight 4 singles, winning the flight championship to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the Wofford Fall Invitational, held October 12-13 on the campus of Wofford College.

Dempsey (Dublin, Ireland) rattled off three wins in Flight 4. The third year Runnin' Bulldog first knocked off Winthrop's Chase Alteri 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round on Saturday morning prior to outlasting Appalachian State's Matt Saltsgaver 7-6, 6-1 to set up the Flight Championship match Sunday morning versus Wofford's Trevor Gotkowski.

Dempsey won that match, earning a 5-2 lead in set one before Gotkowski had to retire.

GWU's Flight 2 doubles duo, Jonathan Walker and Ernest Alberch, also won their opening round decision, knocking off Winthrop's Alteri/Chen pairing by an 8-3 margin. The Runnin' Bulldogs' sophomore-junior pairing rallied for an 8-7 win over Appalachian State's Casey/Kleynhans early on Sunday. Walker and Alberch also played Wofford's Keith/Gotkowski tandem on Sunday, falling just short in an 8-7 defeat.

Alberch (Torello, Spain) picked up a win on his own on Sunday, prevailing in a No. 3 singles flight match over Wofford's Walker Heffron. The junior won 6-3, 6-4 over the Terriers' Flight 3 player.

The tandem of Benjamin Kaszás and Nikita Zverkov captured a No. 1 doubles win on Saturday. The sophomore combo defeated Winthrop's Patrick/Decandia, 8-5, in Flight 1 doubles, but dropped a tough 8-7 decision to Appalachian State's King/Bost pairing on Sunday.

Freshman Nick Lofrumento (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) won his first match in Flight 7 singles Saturday morning. Lofrumento held off Wofford's Zach Landy, winning 6-1, 7-6 to pick up a win for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

GWU's next scheduled competition comes at ITA Regionals, to be held Thursday, October 17 through Monday, October 21 in Cary, N.C.
