Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Charlotte Duels 5K race Saturday morning, with the men's race beginning at 9 a.m. and the women's race following immediately after at 9:30 a.m.
Gardner-Webb junior Ariel Zimmerman led the charge for the women's team, continuing her strong start to the 2011 season with a 10th place finish in a time of 19:28.48. Zimmerman's effort Saturday marks her second consecutive top-10 finish, including a 7th place showing last weekend at the UNC Invitational.
GWU senior Elizabeth Glunk was the second fastest Runnin' Bulldog at 21:20.73, followed by teammates Katie Spiro (22:14.19) and Cherish Richardson (22:14.37).
On the men's side, GWU sophomore Mike McClay, the reigning Big South Conference Runner of the Week, posted another top-5 finish this season, placing 5th in a time of 15:51.10. McClay won the men's 5K race at the UNC Invitational last weekend.
Josiah Stanton-Brooks followed with a 17th place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs , running a time of 16:26.09. Sophomore Justin Loy (17:38.42) and Freshman Trey Cook (17:53.92) also ran the men's 5K race for Gardner-Webb Saturday morning.
GWU cross country will be back in action Friday, Sep. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Cary, N.C. at the adidas/Wolfpack Invitational.
