Greensboro, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis team fell on the road, dropping a 5-2 decision at the hands of host UNC Greensboro at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center Saturday.

With the loss, the Runnin' Bulldogs drop to 1-3 on the season.

In doubles play, Gardner-Webb got a win at the #2 slot, as Adam Knutsson-Sundblad and Korhan Ates prevailed over UNCG's Randy Phillips/C. Varapongsittikul to win 8-4. UNCG would win at #1 and #3 to claim the doubles point.

Ernest Alberch improved to 2-2 on the season with a win at #4 singles. The freshman from Torello, Spain outlasted Phillips, battling to win by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (10-8) to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the point.

Brendan Dempsey won his second individual match in a row at #6 singles, defeating UNCG's Jimmy Roueche 6-3, 6-3. Dempsey (Dublin, Ireland) picked up a win in GWU's 5-2 over Davidson last Saturday.

Sophomore Korhan Ates won the first set at #1 singles but was unable to hold on and fell to Orcun Seyrek (UNCG) 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Roman Piftor (6-3, 7-6(7-5)) and freshman Joao Poli (7-6 (7-4), 6-4) also dropped hard-fought affairs Saturday.

Gardner-Webb will turn around to hit the courts tomorrow, travelling to take on Elon. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
