Elon, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 2-5 on the season Saturday, dropping a 7-0 decision at the hands of the Elon Phoenix.
Gardner-Webb dropped a hard-fought doubles point, as the duo of Matthew Parker/Ernest Alberch picked up the lone win for GWU on the day at #2 doubles. The pair outlasted Elon's Stefan Fortmann/Juan Madrid by a score of 8-4.
At #1 doubles, the duo of Korhan Ates/Adam Knutsson-Sundblad fell by a score of 9-7 to Elon's Cameron Silverman/Jordan Kaufman. GWU's #3 doubles pair of Stephen Martin/Joao Poli dropped a 9-7 decision to the Phoenix's Andrew Prince/Christopher Geaslen.
Alberch, a freshman from Torello, Spain, battled back to win the second set against Madrid, but ultimately fell by a count of 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7).
The Gardner-Webb men will return to the courts this coming Thursday, hosting Appalachian State University. The Feb. 23 match is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
