ASHEVILLE - Gardner-Webb rapped out 14 hits and scored five runs in the eighth inning to break open a 10-3 win at UNC Asheville in both teams' regular season finale.

The win gives the Runnin' Bulldogs (30-26, 12-12 Big South) a road series win and its second 30-win season in a row. GWU also finishes the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth in the Big South Conference standings with UNC Asheville (25-28, 12-12) and Radford.

Gardner-Webb jumped on top in the finale by scoring three runs in the third inning, getting a one-out single from Zeke Blanton and an RBI double from Adam McFarland to get started. John Harris then followed with an RBI triple for a 2-0 lead and scored on Scott Coleman's sacrifice fly for the 3-0 lead.

Asheville responded with a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings to trim the lead to 3-2, getting an RBI single from Thomas Best in the fifth and an RBI single from Cody Adkins in the sixth.

Gardner-Webb padded its lead with one out in the seventh, getting a double from Henry Rundio and a two-run home run from Will Canady to go up 5-2.

A leadoff walk to John Harris started the monster eighth inning for the 'Dogs. Coleman followed with a single, Dusty Quattlebaum legged out a bunt single and Ryan Hodge delivered an RBI single with one out to push the score to 7-2.

Rundio then delivered an RBI knock to right and Blanton drew a bases loaded walk to give Gardner-Webb a comfortable 9-2 advantage. McFarland delivered a sacrifice fly for Gardner-Webb's final run of the day.

UNC Asheville collected three hits to score its final run in the ninth, but Adam Izokovic closed out the game without any further damage.

Beau Hilton (6-3) won his second league start in a row, allowing just one run on four hits in 5.0 innings of work. His effort was the third of the weekend where Gardner-Webb starters went at least 5.0 innings and allowed no more than one run.

Conner Scarborough, Jeff Howell and Izokovic kept the lead safe the rest of the way.

Quattlebaum (3-for-5, run) and Harris (3-for-4, 3B, RBI) paced Gardner-Webb's 14-hit attack, with Blanton (2-for-4, RBI) and Rundio (2-for-5, RBI) also collecting a pair of those hits.

Patrick Koontz, Cody Buch and Grant Gajdosz each had a pair of knocks for UNC Ashevile, which collected 11 hits (nine singles) in the finale.

Brian Connolly (5-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.

Gardner-Webb will begin play in the 2012 Big South Conference Baseball Tournament, presented by Brookwood Farms BBQ and Triangle Rent-A-Car, on Tuesday, May 22, in High Point, N.C. Full brackets and seedings will be announced later Saturday night.
