CLINTON, SC - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team defeated Presbyterian College by a 5-2 score Sunday afternoon.

Action began with doubles play, where the Lady Bulldogs earned victories by the team of Erica White and Kasey Ellis at the No. 1 position and Ioana Oprea and Rita Gouveia at the No. 2 position to take the doubles point for the early advantage.

In singles play, Erica White defeated Heather Heusel (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 1 position, and Ioana Oprea defeated Olivia McMillian (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 2 position to give Gardner-Webb the early 3-0 advantage.

The Blue Hose fought back, earning victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, until Rita Gouveia defeated Paige Oelke (7-6(5), 6-1) at the No. 3 position to seal the overall victory for the Lady Bulldogs.

The last match to conclude was at the No. 5 position between Ronia Hutterli and Cara Caruso, which went into a third-set tiebreaker, yet Hutterli was able to earn the win for Gardner-Webb (6-7(4), 6-2, 10-5).

The Lady Bulldogs will return to action Thursday afternoon as they host Coastal Carolina in what will be Senior Day for the team.  The match is set for a 1:30 PM start time, with seniors Kasey Ellis and Allie Mills being honored prior to the match.
