Gardner-Webb Women's
Swim Team Ties for Nation's Ninth Best GPA
The CSCAA announced that the GWU women's swim team has
recorded a top-10 GPA in the nation for the 2011 spring semester. The Runnin'
Bulldogs' 3.52 GPA tied the University of South Carolina for ninth best in the
country.

Gardner-Webb Men's
Swimming GPA Among the Nation's Best
Gardner-Webb's men's swim team has been honored on the
CSCAA's list of Scholar All-America teams after compiling a 3.20 GPA during the
2011 spring semester. The Runnin' Bulldogs' spring mark was tied for 18th best
in Division 1 this spring.

Gardner-Webb Had 171
Student-Athletes Named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for the 2010-11
Year
Gardner-Webb
placed 52.62 percent of its 325 student-athletes on the annual conference honor
roll.
The
Runnin' Bulldogs women's track & field program posted the most
student-athletes on the honor roll with 21 members, while the baseball team
recorded 20 members on the list.
However,
both the men's and women's tennis teams led the way for GWU with 100 percent of
its student-athletes receiving Presidential Honor Roll recognition. Overall, 11
different programs placed 50 percent or more of its team members on the
conference honor roll listing.

Carrie Long Receives Conference's Prestigious Christenberry Award for Academic
Excellence
The
Big South Conference today announced that Gardner-Webb senior Carrie Long was
one of five Big South student-athletes to have been awarded the Conference's
prestigious George A. Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence.
Big
South member institutions nominate one male and one female student-athlete (regardless
if the sport is sponsored by the Big South or not) for the annual Christenberry
Award. The award is given to the male and female student-athlete who
attains the highest GPA during their college careers and graduates as a
student-athlete of a member institution during the past year. In case of
ties, additional awards are provided. The honor is named for George A.
Christenberry, the former President of Augusta College (now Augusta State
University) and one of the founders of the Big South Conference. A member
of the Big South Hall of Fame, Christenberry served as the League's first
President from 1983-86. It is the eighth time in the last nine years that
more than two student-athletes have been honored.

Hutschalik Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Gardner-Webb
graduate and current graduate student Christoph Hutschalik was one of 29 male
student-athletes to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the spring
2011 season.
Hutschalik,
who graduated in December 2010 with an undergraduate degree in International
Business, has been working toward an MBA degree in International Business this
spring, posting a perfect 4.00 grade point average thus far in his graduate
studies.

GWU's Quattlebaum Named Big South Male
Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Gardner-Webb
baseball standout Dusty Quattlebaum was named 2010-2011 Big South Conference
Scholar-Athlete of the Year, marking the second time in the past three years a
Runnin' Bulldog has captured the honor.
Men's
Basketball standout Aaron Linn earned the honor for the 2008-2009 academic year.
The Scholar-Athletes of the Year are voted on by the Big South Sports
Information Directors from a pool of each sport's Scholar-Athlete winner.

Four GWU Student-Athletes Tabbed Big
South Scholar-Athletes of the Year for their Respective Sport
Rita
Gouveia - Women's Tennis
Gouveia, a senior from Ponta Delgada, Portugal,
boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.94 while majoring in Biology. In singles
play, she posted an overall record of 11-4 and 4-2 in Big South play, mostly at
the No. 6 position. In doubles action, she posted a record of 13-4
overall and 5-2 in Big South play, partnering either with sophomore Ronia
Hutterli or senior Laura Kriett.
Dusty
Quattlebaum - Baseball
Quattlebaum (Boiling Springs, N.C. / Crest HS)
has compiled a 4.00 cumulative GPA in his major of sports management, and has
been a standout on the field for the Runnin' Bulldogs as well. He was named
first-team Capital One Academic All-America on Tuesday, becoming the first
baseball player to earn that distinction in school history.

Hutschalik - Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field
Hutschalik,

Carrie
Long - Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field
Long, a 4.00 student in biology from Franklin,
N.C., re-set her own Gardner-Webb record in the women's outdoor pole vault in
2010-11, as she cleared the bar at 3.75 meters to finish first at the Terrier
Relays - which was the top mark in the Conference this season.
Gardner-Webb's Ryan Medved Named To 2011
NWCA National All-Academic Team
Gardner-Webb
redshirt-sophomore grappler Ryan Medved was named to the 2011 National
Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National All-Academic Team this week for
the 2010-11 wrestling season.
Ryan
Medved, who is majoring in Chemistry at GWU, was one of four Gardner-Webb
wrestlers to represent the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 2011 NCAA Division I
Wrestling Championships. The NCAA qualifier and East Regional Champion at
149 was 20-12 overall on the season and 13-7 in dual match action.

Senior Linebacker Oluwadamilola Teniola
Receives Scholarship from the Carolina Panthers Foundation
The
Carolina Panthers award two $10,000 scholarships each year to outstanding
student-athletes who have completed their undergraduate work and are seeking
support for their graduate level studies. Scholarships are awarded to one male
and one female student-athlete in North Carolina or South Carolina on the basis
of leadership, citizenship and academic merit. Past scholarship winners are now
working in medicine, politics, law and education.
