Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb
men's soccer team will return home this week to host both UNC Asheville and
High Point in Big South Conference action at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling
Springs, N.C.
Gardner-Webb (6-6-2, 3-2 Big South) is on a three-match
winning streak and will be looking to make it four conference wins in a row on
Wednesday night at home against the Asheville Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who are a perfect 2-0 at home thus
far this season, have outscored their opponents 7-3 over their current
three-match winning streak. In
fact, GWU has never trailed during its current winning streak, scoring the
first goal in each contest along the way.
While GWU is only 6-7-1 all-time versus the Asheville
Bulldogs, the Runnin' Bulldogs have won the last two meetings between these two
teams, including a 3-0 win last year in Asheville, N.C.
Asheville, who is 3-7-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference
play thus far this season, will be looking to knock off the Runnin' Bulldogs
and climb up in the Big South regular season standings. The Bulldogs, who are coming off a 3-0
loss to League leading #20 Coastal Carolina last Saturday afternoon, are only
2-4-1 in true road matches this season.
GWU will remain at home to host High Point on Saturday
night at 7 p.m.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have never beaten High Point in men's
soccer action, having posted a 0-5-2 record against the Panthers overall. However, GWU will look to add a first
to a season that already includes the program's first ever wins over VCU and
Milwaukee, as well as their first ever win at VMI in Lexington, Va.
High Point, who will play at Presbyterian College on
Wednesday night, enters play this week at 4-7-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference
play. The Panthers are coming off
back-to-back losses against #20 Coastal Carolina and Radford and will look to
get back on the winning track this week.
Both matches will have live stats, which will be available
at www.gwusports.com, and are slated to
be video streamed live by the Big South Network, presented by State Farm. The live video feed will be available
at www.bigsouthsports.com.
