Sanborn, N.Y. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team went 1-2 overall at the UB Quad Meet on Sunday, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers suffered a 43-9 loss to Buffalo, then defeated Niagara County Community 29-21, before finishing the day with a 34-6 loss to Bloomsburg University in Sanborn, New York.

In GWU's first match of the day, the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers struggled from start to finish against the host institution in the Buffalo Bulls, suffering a fall in four of the 10 bouts.

The Runnin' Bulldogs' lone win came at 149-pounds, as redshirt-junior Ryan Medved earned a 6-1 win over Chris Conti of Buffalo.

At 133-pounds, sophomore Robbie Golde battled Justin Farmer of Buffalo for all three periods before dropping the decision 14-8, while redshirt-junior Travis Porter was handed a tough 3-1 loss at 197-pounds by way of Justin Heiserman.

Freshman Justin Kozera had his eight-match winning streak snapped, as he was pinned at 4:55 by Jed Mason of the Bulls.

Six different Runnin' Bulldog wrestlers posted wins in GWU's second match of the day, as the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Niagara Community College 29-21.

Redshirt-senior Michael Slaughter posted a first period pin at 2:13 over Dwann Hall to get the match on track for GWU.

After a Golde 6-2 decision at 133-pounds over Caleb Green put GWU in front 9-0 early, the Thunder Wolves picked up 12 straight points on a pin at 141-pounds and an injury default victory at 149-pounds to take a 12-9 lead over Gardner-Webb.

Redshirt-juniors Alex Medved and Justin Guthrie each posted dominating performances in the next two bouts to put the Runnin' Bulldogs back on top at 19-12. Alex Medved recorded a fall at 4:56 over Irvin Buck at 157-pounds, while Guthrie earned an 11-3 major decision win over David Lyons at 165-pounds.

A fall at 174-pounds put Niagara Community back into the match at 19-18, however, back-to-back wins by GWU at 184-pounds and 197-pounds put GWU in front at 29-18 and the match out of reach for the Thunder Wolves.

At 184-pounds, freshman Julian Ming shutout Joe McGrath for a 9-0 major decision win, which was immediately followed up by a third period pin by Travis Porter at 197-pounds over Aireol Harper.

Despite a loss at the heavyweight spot, GWU held on for the 29-21 match victory.

Gardner-Webb then suffered another tough loss, falling to Bloomsburg University 34-6, as the Runnin' Bulldogs took wins at 125 and 133-pounds.

At 125-pounds, Slaughter edged Sean Boylan of Bloomsburg for a 3-2 win, while Golde held on for a 5-2 decision over Craig Barker at 133-pounds.

Gardner-Webb (2-4, 0-2 SoCon) will next compete at the 2012 Southern Scuffle, which will be hosted by Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn. on January 1-2.
