Boiling Springs, N.C.
- As part of the 2012 Alumni Day festivities hosted by the Gardner-Webb
women's basketball program on Saturday, February 18th, the Runnin' Bulldogs
will recognize Fredia Lawrence King and Ruth Hammond Bailey prior to the 5 p.m.
tip-off with UNC Asheville in Paul Porter Arena.
Lawrence King will be honored with the retiring of her No.
21 jersey in the rafters of Paul Porter Arena. The 2002 Gardner-Webb Athletics Hall of Fame Honoree played
from 1988-92 and was a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection. Lawrence King, who finished her career
as the program's leading scorer and rebounder, still holds those marks today
with her 2,201 career points and her 1,220 career rebounds.
Hammond Bailey will be honored as this year's Gardner-Webb
women's basketball Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Hammond Bailey, who
played for Gardner-Webb from 2000-04 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English with teacher licensure, is currently a 10th grade English
teacher at South Mecklenburg High School.
She is married to Brennan Bailey, a 2005 graduate of Gardner-Webb, and
has been a very active member of Carmel Baptist Church over the last six years.
Gardner-Webb invites all of its women's basketball alumni,
players and coaches, to come out for the game on Saturday, February 18th.
During halftime of the women's basketball contest versus
Asheville, all the alumni will be recognized, for not only their time spent at
Gardner-Webb University, but also for their constant support and contributions
to the women's basketball and university family as a whole.
Make plans to attend now, as it will be the final
double-header of the season for the women and men's basketball teams.
