Boone, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Ashlei Alexander won the
women's weight throw with a school record-breaking performance as four GWU
hurlers threw at the 2012 Appalachian Pre-Conference Indoor Invitational on
Frdiay.
Alexander (Queens, N.Y.) tossed a distance of 17.07 m in the
weight throw to earn top honors. The throw not only set a new personal best for
the junior, but established a new school record in the event as well.
Kyntoya Hansford (Miami, Fla.) also set a new personal best
for the Runnin' Bulldogs, throwing 14.63 m to finish 3rd in the event.
The sophomore also achieved a 4th place finish in the
women's shot put for GWU, again setting a new personal best with a distance of
11.52 m.
Carson Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) set a new personal best in the
men's shot put event with a distance of 15.17 m, good enough for 2nd in the
event. The sophomore added a 6th place showing in the weight throw, setting
another personal best in throwing 17.68 m.
Senior Travis Rogers (Conyers, Ga.) finished in 7th place in
the men's weight throw, tossing 17.21 m.
Gardner-Webb track & field will be in Blacksburg, Va.
next week for the 2011-12 Big South Indoor Championships. The meet is set for
February 24th-25th.
