Charlotte, N.C - Gardner-Webb junior Erica White (Charleston, W.Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Alice Hopkins (Birmingham, England) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Feb. 13-19, it was announced today by the League office.

White went 2-1 last week with two singles victories to remain undefeated in individual competition this season.  She defeated Presbyterian's Paige Oelke 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to help the Runnin' Bulldogs grab a road win in their Conference opener.  White then outlasted East Carolina's Yilan Zhang by a score of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to propel GWU to its first win over the Pirates in program history.

Hopkins was a perfect 2-0 in both singles and doubles action last week to help Gardner-Webb win matches against Presbyterian and East Carolina.  She first claimed victories at No. 2 singles (straight-sets) and No. 2 doubles vs. the Blue Hose, and followed with wins at the same flight against the Pirates.  Against ECU, Hopkins battled back to win a singles point, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, and teamed with fellow freshman Yasmin Doost to clinch the doubles point in the 4-3 team victory.

Gardner-Webb women's tennis hosts a pair of matches this weekend. The Runnin' Bulldogs will take on Wofford on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and will do battle with Big South foe Radford on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
