SERIES VS. HIGH POINT
After a three-game road trip, the Runnin' Bulldogs return
home to host High Point on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a 59-55 overtime win at Radford on Monday night, in
which the Runnin' Bulldogs hauled down 64 rebounds for the game, tying the
program's DI mark for the most rebounds in a single game. High Point has won two straight games,
both of which came at home over PC and Winthrop, and will look to hold on to
second-place heading into the conference tournament in two weeks. The two
teams' have not met since back on January 2nd, as the Panthers defeated GWU
63-41 in High Point, N.C. The loss
ended the Runnin' Bulldogs winning streak over the Panthers at six games, and
was the first time that GWU had lost to High Point on the hardwood in women's
basketball action since back in 2008-09. GWU is 4-2 at home versus the Panthers
since 2001-02, including having won the last four home meetings in Paul Porter Arena.
CLEANING THE GLASS
RECORD STYLE
Gardner-Webb hauled in 64 total rebounds in their overtime
win over Radford last Monday night.
The 64 total rebounds tied the GWU Division I record for the most
rebounds in a single game by a women's basketball team. GWU had 31 offensive rebounds for the game
and had 19 more rebounds (64-45) then Radford. GWU's Jessica Heilig had a career-high 15 rebounds, while
Catrina Green pulled down 13 boards herself in the win.
ATTACKING WITH NO
FEAR
Over the Runnin' Bulldogs last three games GWU has been
attacking without fear on the offensive end and getting to the free throw line
more often then their opponents.
In fact, over the last three games, GWU has averaged over 32 free throw
attempts per contest. After
shooting 17 free throws at Longwood, GWU went to the charity stripe 39 times
last Saturday at Liberty and 42 times last Monday night in the overtime win at
Radford.
NOT OUT OF THE HUNT
JUST YET
GWU is still in the mix for a spot in the 2012 Advance Auto
Parts Big South Women's Basketball Championship Tournament come March 9-11 in
High Point, N.C. The Runnin'
Bulldogs are in need of a win to help assure them a spot in the postseason
conference tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team overcame another
poor shooting night by hauling down 31 offensive rebounds on Monday night to
upset the Radford Highlanders, 59-55, in overtime at the Dedmon Center in
Radford, Va. The overtime game was the third between these two schools over the
last five meetings with the Runnin' Bulldogs winning all three games. Leading
the way for Gardner-Webb was, senior Brianna Dillard with a team-high 17 points
to go along with nine rebounds and three steals, while guard Jasmine Dale added
nine points and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Freshman Jessica Heilig added eight
points and brought down nine rebounds, while fellow freshman KiKi Smith chipped
in with eight points as well. Gardner-Webb improves to 4-0 on the year when
leading at the halftime break. Despite shooting only 26 percent from the floor,
as the Runnin' Bulldogs were 17-of-66 for the game, head coach Rick Reeves'
team was 22-of-42 (52.4 percent) from the free throw line and held a decisive
64 to 45 rebound advantage for the contest.
