SERIES VS. CAMPBELL
GWU is in need of a win on "Senior Night", March 5th, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season with a home contest versus
Campbell at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
In order for GWU's season to continue beyond Monday night and to earn a
spot in next week's Big South Tournament, the Runnin' Bulldogs most post a win
over Campbell and hope that UNC Asheville falls to High Point. Campbell, who is looking to secure a
No. 4 seed for the postseason conference tournament, defeated GWU 62-52 back in
the two teams' conference opener on December 30th in Buies Creek, N.C. While Campbell holds a slight 9-8
advantage in the two teams' Division I series, GWU has won seven of the last 11
meetings between the two schools on the hardwood. Gardner-Webb is 4-2 versus the Fighting Camels at home in
Paul Porter Arena with the last home loss to Campbell coming back in
2005-06. Prior to the game, GWU
will recognize their seniors Brianna Dillard and Breynna Winkler.
GWU TO HOLD "SENIOR
NIGHT" MONDAY NIGHT, MARCH 5TH
Prior to the 7 p.m. tip-off with Campbell on Monday night,
March 5th, the Gardner-Webb women's basketball program will recognize seniors
Breynna Winkler and Brianna Dillard on "Senior Night". Make plans now to arrive
early to show your appreciation for the two seniors hard work over the last few
years at GWU.
IN NEED OF A WIN
GWU is still in the mix for a spot in the 2012 Advance Auto
Parts Big South Women's Basketball Championship Tournament come March 9-11 in
High Point, N.C. The Runnin'
Bulldogs are in need of a win and a UNC Asheville loss on Monday night to assure
them a spot in the postseason conference tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team pushed High Point
to the limit for most of the 40 minutes of play, however, the High Point
Panthers scored 22 points off of 24 Runnin' Bulldog turnovers to pull away from
GWU late and defeat the Runnin' Bulldogs, 66-46, at Paul Porter Arena in
Boiling Springs, N.C. on Friday night. While the points in the paint were even
for the game at 34 points apiece, the Panthers took advantage of 24
Gardner-Webb turnovers, scoring 22 points off those miscues in the win. GWU
sophomore center Catrina Green had 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior
guard Brianna Dillard added 10 points and seven rebounds for the game. Freshman Jessica Heilig hauled down a
team-high nine rebounds for GWU in the loss. Back-to-back baskets from GWU's
Mayhana Dunovant and Jasmine Dale put the Runnin' Bulldogs within striking
distance at 51-46 with 6:03 to go in regulation, yet the Panthers went to
Reynolds, who scored six of their next 10 points to help High Point pull away
for the 66-46 win. The Runnin' Bulldogs went the final 6:03 without a single
point, as High Point outscored GWU 14-0 during that span en route to the 20
point win. Gardner-Webb out-rebounded High Point 46-40 and hauled in 23
offensive rebounds, which led to 13 second chance points. However, the Panthers
shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) overall for the game, while GWU shot only 28.6
percent (20-of-70) overall.
