Rock Hill, S.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs struggled at the plate on Saturday afternoon, as Gardner-Webb scored only one run over their two games, falling to Bowling Green, 8-0, and St. John's, 4-1, on day two of the 2012 Winthrop/adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
The two losses snaps the Runnin' Bulldogs' winning streak at three and drops GWU to 10-14 overall on the season.
Game 1: Bowling Green 8, Gardner-Webb 0
The Runnin' Bulldogs fell behind early and failed to score a run, as the Falcons shutout the Runnin' Bulldogs 8-0.
The Falcons took an early lead, pushing across one run in the first inning. Bowling Green added two more runs in the second and in the third, to take a 5-0 lead into the fourth.
GWU's Alyssa Gutierrez (4-7) suffered the loss, while Jaime Kertes got the win for the Falcons.
Sophomore Samantha Meenaghan led the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively, as she was 2-3 at the plate.
For Bowling Green, junior Paige Berger was 3-4 with two doubles in the contest, while sophomore Katie Yoho went 2-2 with a home run and a single, collecting two RBI.
Game 2: St. John's 4, Gardner-Webb 1
In game two, the Runnin' Bulldogs were out hit 12-3 for the game in the 4-1 loss to St. John's.
Gardner-Webb's lone run of the game came off a sacrifice fly by senior Lindsea Hutchinson, as the Runnin' Bulldog offense continued its slump through game two on Saturday afternoon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' Cindy Boomhower (4-2) was handed the loss, while St. John's Fran Carrullo earned the win.
Gardner-Webb (10-14) will remain on the road for their next two games, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State in a non-conference double header on Wednesday, March 14, at 1 p.m.
