Courtney Finocchiaro finished in a tie for third-place overall to lead the
Runnin' Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish at the Low Country
Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College at the par-72, 5,853-yard South
Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
As a team, the Runnin' Bulldogs carded rounds of 320 and 319
to finish the two-day event with a combined team score of 639, +63, good enough
for a fifth-place finish.
GWU finished two strokes ahead of host Wofford College (641,
+65), who took sixth place, and in front of fellow conference foe Presbyterian
College who came in seventh-place with a combined team score of 642, +66.
Finocchiaro led the Runnin' Bulldogs on both days, as she
carded team low rounds of 76 on both Sunday and Monday, to finish in a five-way
tie for third-place overall with her combined two-day score of 152, +8.
Behind Finocchiaro was junior Lauren Smith, who turned in
rounds of 82 and 79 to finish in a tie at 29th-place overall with a combined
score of 161, +17, and junior Sammy Vass, who carded two rounds of 81 to place
in a tie at 32nd-place with her two round combined score of 162, +18.
Rounding out the scoring for GWU at the two-day event were
juniors Hannah Hellyer and Meghan Allum.
Hellyer posted rounds of 81 and 83 to finish with a combined score of
164, +20, placing her in a tie for 39th-place overall, while Allum shot a 90
and an 85 to finish the two-day event in 68th-place with her combined two-day
score of 175, +31.
Appalachian State won the event, as the Mountaineers posted
a combined team score of 621, +45, finishing just ahead of Radford (623, +47),
who took second, and Jacksonville (624, +48), who placed third.
Individually, Princeton's Kelly Shon and Maria Luz Besio of
Newberry finished tied for first-place with combined scores of 149, +5, for the
two-round tournament.
Gardner-Webb will return to the links next week, as the
women's golf team will compete at the Mimosa Hills Women's Intercollegiate
hosted by Appalachian State University on April 2 & 3.
