Offseason Update: Simmons Earns CPL All-Star Honors As @GWUBaseball Continues Solid Summer

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb's summer wooden bat participants remain among their respective league's best in July, as All-Star Games and mid-summer action heat up.

Coastal Plains League (CPL)

Gastonia Grizzlies (10-19)
Matt Simmons (3B) – Simmons earned Coastal Plains All-Star Game honors on Tuesday after a strong first half of the season. The Charlotte Christian (N.C.) High standout is batting .286 with a pair of home runs and eight RBI this season for the Grizzlies, with a .398 on base percentage to his credit.

Asheboro Copperheads (20-9)
Wil Sellers (RHP) – Sellers is 1-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six games (five starts) for the Copperheads. He has fanned 30 and walked just nine batters in 32.2 innings of work, with a .231 batting average by opponents this summer.

Bradley Hallman (RHP) – Hallman has gone 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA in five starts, striking out 20 batters in 30.1 innings of work on the mound.

Patrick Morton (RHP) – Morton is 1-1 with a 3.58 ERA in seven games pitched (two starts) this season. Morton has fanned 19 batters in just 17.2 innings.

Forest City Owls (14-15)
Mason Fox (OF/RHP) – Fox has heated up of late, raising his batting average to .214 after a slow start to the summer. Fox has 12 hits in 20 games played, with a pair of home runs and 6 RBI. He has also showcased a strong arm with three outfield assists and made his first pitching appearance with a scoreless frame and two strikeouts.

High Point-Thomasville HiToms (19-10)
Danny Sullivan (1B) – Sullivan is on the FanVote Ballot for a final spot in the 2016 CPL All-Star Game and has earned that recognition after batting .325 with three home runs, seven doubles and 19 RBI for the HiToms. Sullivan has scored 13 runs and has a .353 on base percentage under his belt so far.

Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL)
Carolina Vipers (17-8)
Jarrett Thompson (RHP) – Thompson has been stellar after joining the Vipers' bullpen, going 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 9.1 innings of work this summer. The former Independence (N.C.) High hurler has fanned eight and held opposing batters to a frigid .152 batting average.

Chris Clary (OF) – Clary has a strong .353 on base percentage for the Vipers, swiping five bases and scoring seven runs. He has drive in four runs with two doubles and a home run.

Lake Norman Copperheads (8-17)
J.D. Huggins (DH/OF) – Huggins continues to pace the SCBL with six home runs and has batted .357 with 20 hits, 13 RBI, five doubles, two steals and a .446 on base percentage. The slugger is slugging a solid .768 this summer as well.

Piedmont Pride (20-6)
Chandler Redmond (1B) – Redmond has been one of the hottest hitters in the SCBL of late, batting .321 with four home runs, seven doubles and a triple this summer. He has walked 13 times, stolen five bases and forged a .415 on base percentage in 25 games played.

SBA Bones (18-8)
Aaron Stewart (LHP) – Stewart has helped the Bones to 18 wins, striking out 14 batters in 12.0 relief innings this summer.

Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League
Southern Ohio Copperheads (13-13)
Tyler Johnson (RHP) – Johnson continues to shine in his home state, going 2-1 with a 3.03 ERA for the Southern Ohio club. Johnson has fanned 19 batters in four starts with a .265 opponent batting average allowed.

Cal Ripken Collegiate League
Rockville Express (8-17)
Corey Howard (1B/LHP) – Howard is batting .207 at the plate, with five doubles and seven RBI. He has gone 0-0, with an 0.00 ERA in one appearance on the mound, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings so far out of the pen. Howard projects as a regular on the GWU pitching staff in 2017.

Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League
Catawba Valley Stars (16-11)
Gage Parham (INF) – Parham is batting .294 with a strong .442 on base percentage, which is bolstered by 10 walks and eight times being hit by pitches. Parham has five doubles, one home run, a triple and 16 RBI this summer.

Bandits (8-10)
Patrick Jackson (INF) – 2016 MACL All-Star Patrick Jackson has shined offensively for the Bandits, batting a crisp .333 in 15 games. Jackson has a pair of doubles, one triple and six RBI to his credit, and has a stellar .404 on base percentage.

Minor Leagues
Gwinnett Braves (AAA)
Blake Lalli (C) – Lalli belted his first home run of the season on June 25 vs. the Charlotte Knights and has driven in 17 runs in 2016 for the Braves. He also pitched a scoreless inning of relief in June.

Danville Braves (Rookie)
Jeremy Walker (RHP) – Walker tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in his second appearance of the season and has a 4.91 ERA through two games. The big righty has thrown 3.2 innings out of the bullpen for Danville.

AZL Cardinals (Rookie)
Ryan Boelter (LHP) – Boelter has been steady early in his pro career, throwing scoreless frames in four consecutive outings in the Arizona League. The big lefty has four strikeouts and has walked only one batter in appearances vs. the Dodgers, Mariners, Padres and Giants.

Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie)
Brad Haymes (RHP) – Haymes was promoted to short-season Great Falls, Mont., but has not seen mound action yet in the White Sox organization after pitching a career-best 110.2 innings a a senior for Gardner-Webb.
