@GWUBaseball Sluggers Simmons And Sullivan Earn 2016 All-CPL Honors

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb standouts Matt Simmons and Danny Sullivan each earned a spot on the 2016 All-CPL second team, as announced by the league Tuesday evening.

Simmons (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Christian HS) was chosen as a DH/Utility Player. Sullivan (Denver, N.C. / East Lincoln HS) was selected as a first baseman.

Simmons led the Gastonia Grizzlies with a .327 average in 51 games played, seeing action mostly at the hot corner. He added a team-high six home runs and finished with 25 RBI, six doubles and a triple – forging a .421 on base percentage and a .480 slugging percentage.

Simmons earned a spot in the league's All-Star Game and participated in the annual home run derby in July.

Sullivan got off to a red-hot start and finished the summer with a .281 average, four home runs and 32 RBI for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms.

He added 10 doubles in 44 games and fielded at a .989 clip at first base. Sullivan also scored 25 runs, forged a .409 slugging percentage and a .347 on base percentage.

The pair's selection marks the second-straight season that a Gardner-Webb Diamond 'Dog has earned a place on the All-CPL Team. Rising senior Collin Thacker was a first-team selection following a stellar 2015 summer.

All three sluggers return for their final campaign at Gardner-Webb this year.
