JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Bradley Hallman tossed a complete game, scattering five base hits, to propel Gardner-Webb to a 5-1 win over ETSU on Saturday afternoon.

The right-handed junior shined on the mound, fanning four batters while issuing just one walk.  It was the first complete game performance of Hallman's career, improving his record to 2-2 on the season with an impressive 1.20 ERA.

Gardner-Webb improved to 6-11 on the season, while ESTU dropped to 9-6 on the year.

The Runnin' Bulldogs got two early runs in the top of the second inning as Mason Fox hit a double into deep centerfield to drive in one run, and later in the inning Matt Simmons hit a sacrifice fly deep enough into left field to score Fox.

GWU would add three more runs in the top of the third inning.  Corey Howard led off the frame with a single up the middle but Blake Smith retired the next two batters.

Collin Thacker stepped up to the plate and sent the first pitch he saw over the centerfield wall, his first home run of the season, to score two runs.

Danny Sullivan singled to right field in the following at-bat, which was followed by a walk by Fox to put runners on first and second with two outs.

Luke Kaesmeyer would step up and hit a fast moving grounder to ETSU third baseman Cullen Smith, who would mishandle the ball to allow Sullivan to score to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.

ETSU would score its first run of the day in the bottom of the seventh inning after a RBI groundout by Smith, driving in Christian Bailey, who hit a triple to centerfield in the previous at-bat.

The Buccaneers would threaten to score in the bottom of the ninth, hitting back-to-back singles with one out to put runners on first and second.  It was the first time all afternoon that Hallman allowed more than one runner to reach the base paths.

Bailey would step up and ground into a double play to end the game.

Gardner-Webb had eight base hits on the afternoon, led by Thacker (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) and Howard (2-for-4).

ETSU had five base hits, with Bailey (2-for-4, 3B) leading the way for the Buccaneers.

Blake Smith took the loss for ETSU, lasting 5.0 innings with five strikeouts while allowing four earned runs.

Gardner-Webb will host Quinnipiac on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm at John Henry Moss Stadium.
