MOBILE, Ala. – Gardner-Webb outside linebacker Chad Geter was one of 400 rising seniors named to the 2017 Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List Tuesday.

More than 1,200 college football standouts are eligible for the game, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on January 28, 2017 (2:30 pm ET).

Gardner-Webb's last student-athlete to play in the Senior Bowl was offensive lineman Richard Williams in 2002. Geter is one of 34 FCS student-athletes named to the initial Senior Bowl Watch List on Tuesday.

"The release of our watch list signifies the opening kickoff of the Reese's Senior Bowl," said Executive Director Phil Savage in a release. "We are looking forward to evaluating these prospects over the next several months in trying to find the best 110 players in America."

Geter (Irmo, S.C. / Dutch Fork HS) enters his third season as a starter for the Runnin' Bulldogs and is in the best physical condition of his career – entering the season as a versatile and fit 6-foot-2, 253-pound graduate student. Geter runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.6-second range and is equally effective rushing the passer and dropping into coverage.

Geter was named a preseason STATS FCS All-America linebacker in early August and was runner up for the Big South Conference's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year award in July.

A two-time All-Big South Conference choice already, Geter is coming off a career-best season that saw him lead the nation's 13th-ranked defense with 92 tackles in 2015. He added 13.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and led a unit that ranked No. 3 in third down conversion defense and No. 7 against the pass.

Geter was named Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2015 – once on October 12 after leading GWU to a win over No. 15 Liberty and again on November 2 after a multiple-sack effort in a win over Presbyterian. He had 10 tackles in Ladd-Peebles Stadium last September, playing well in Gardner-Webb's loss at South Alabama in the season opener.

As a sophomore in 2013, Geter was a key cog in a Gardner-Webb defense that ranked No. 5 nationally and sparked three upsets of top-15 teams that season. He has totaled 227 career tackles (136 solo), 27.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks in 36 games played.

Geter graduated from Gardner-Webb in May, 2016 and is currently pursuing his MBA in Gardner-Webb's Godbold School of Business.

Gardner-Webb opens the 2016 regular season on September 3 at Elon (3:30 pm).
