Runnin' Bulldogs Roll Past Warren Wilson, 95-45, Friday Night

BOILING SPRINGS – Tyrell Nelson scored 14 points and Gardner-Webb shot 62.1 percent from the floor in an easy, 95-45, win over Warren Wilson Friday night in Paul Porter Arena.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (6-5) jumped out to a 16-0 lead and never looked back, taking a comfortable 54-18 lead into halftime.

A 12-0 run to start the second half pushed the margin quickly to 48 points when reserve wing Eric Jamison stole a pass and raced in for a layup and a 66-18 advantage – with 16:01 still left in the game.

Gardner-Webb substituted freely and often from there, as all available players scored in the rout. Ten different men played at least 12 minutes in the game and four scored in double figures.

In addition to Nelson, Gardner-Webb got 13 points from DJ Laster, 12 points from Brandon Miller and 10 from Jamison. Point guard Laquincy Rideau finished with nine points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals in an excellent all-around floor game.

The Runnin' Bulldogs were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Owls (5-10) by a 72-8 margin. GWU also held sizable advantages in fast break points (37-2), bench points (56-18) and points off of turnovers (28-8), taking advantage of 22 Warren Wilson miscues.

Gardner-Webb shot 65.7 percent in the decisive opening half and finished at 62.1 percent (41-of-66) for the game with 27 assists. The Runnin' Bulldogs owned a 44-23 edge on the glass and limited the Owls to 29.8 percent shooting on the night – not allowing a field goal for the first 7:36 of the game.

Warren Wilson finally reached double figures on a Marques Sullivan jumper with 6:28 left in the first half, cutting Gardner-Webb's lead to 34-11. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the first half with 40 of their 54 points in the paint.

The Owls were led by Sullivan's 15 points. Leading scorer Michael Pomeroy, who entered the game averaging 21.9 points per game, finished with five on 1-of-6 shooting.

Gardner-Webb will have little time to rest, as it plays Nebraska on the road Sunday afternoon (Dec. 18) in a nationally-televised game. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Cornhuskers tip off at 2:05 pm on ESPNU.
