CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb's Ali Al-Gashamy was named Big South Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office.
Al-Gashamy (Kristiansand, Norway) enjoyed one of the finest week's of his career in Boiling Springs, recording three goals and an assist in two matches played.
The redshirt senior recorded a hat trick in Saturday's 4-1 win over VMI, recording his 18th, 19th and 20th career goals in the process. Al-Gashamy scored just 2:29 into the match, hammering a shot into the upper right corner for an early 1-0 lead.
He converted his second penalty kick of the season at the 51:50 mark for a 2-0 advantage – and capped his scoring in the 72nd minute with another shot into the upper right corner of the net.
Against a strong Furman side on Tuesday, Al-Gashamy's cross to Simen Olsen in the 18th minute gave Gardner-Webb a 1-0 lead. He took one shot in that match as well.
So far in 2016, Al-Gashamy has posted a .563 shots on goal percentage (9-of-16) to go with six goals and 13 total points.
He has scored 56 career points for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb (2-4) plays Tuesday night at Clemson. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Riggs Field.
