BOILING SPRINGS- The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team is picked fifth in the Big South Conference preseason poll, which was announced by the league office Thursday.

Head coach Mike Griffith is optimistic about the upcoming season and believes it will be a fun year.

"We have a very balanced team that has a lot of good depth. The chemistry among the team is the best we have had since 2010," says Coach Griffith, who is entering his 16th year with Gardner-Webb's tennis team.

The team is young this year with no seniors on the roster. They will be led by sophmore Maximillian Scholl, who was the 2016 Big South Conference Freshman of the Year.

The team will have their first appearance on January 21st at 2:00, featuring an alumni match. For that event they will welcome 2010 Big South Conference Player of the Year Evgeny Slesarev along with three All-Conference players.

The Runnin' Bulldogs play their first match on Wednesday January 25th at Davidson and will have their home opener on Friday, February 10th against Limestone at 2:00pm.
