BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb men's tennis opened its 2017 home schedule in style Friday afternoon, rolling to a 6-1 win over Limestone.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (1-3) took the doubles point after a 6-3 win from the duo Maximillian Scholl and Paul Hogan at No. 1 – and a 6-4 win by Adam Schmidt and Michael Perry at No. 2 doubles. The win by Schmidt and Perry sealed the point after Limestone captured a 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
"It was nice to get the doubles point again for the second match in a row," said head coach Mike Griffith. "Glad to see Puga and Plentz win their first match this season as well. We will now play five matches in five days beginning next week and we are looking forward to our next one."
Scholl – the reigning Big South Player of the Week – made quick work of Stefano Soares at No. 1 singles, taking that match in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
Limestone's Frederico Garnier captured a 7-6 (6-2), 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to get the Saints on the board, but Gardner-Webb swept through the rest of the singles matches for the final margin.
