BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb Softball will host a trio of prospect camps this Winter, two that will provide instruction for hitting and defense, while one will provide instruction for pitching and catching.
The Prospect Hitting and Defense Camps will be held on December 3rd and January 14th, and will cover advanced instruction on hitting and defense, with the hitting portion designed to improve a player's offensive game with the focus of proper and efficient technique, mental preparation, timing, and pitch coordination, and the defensive portion designed to cover specific fundamentals and drills related to correct throwing mechanics, glove work, footwork, and game strategy. Both camps will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Brinkley Softball Stadium.
The Battery (Pitcher & Catcher) Prospect Camp will be held on December 17th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Pitchers will focus on the fundamentals of pitching, the specifics of throwing a variety of pitches, drills that you can take home to improve your pitches, the mental aspect of pitching, and what it takes to be successful as a pitcher. Catches will receive advanced instruction on blocking, framing, pitch calling, footwork, body positioning, steal throws, pick offs and much more. The camp will also teach the importance of "The Battery" relationship between pitchers and catchers.
The cost for each camp is $50 and pre-registration is required. Please download the registration form and send to GWU assistant coach Chelsea Hawkins at firstname.lastname@example.org.
