CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb softball standouts Alia Booth and Olivia Henson were each been honored by the Big South Conference Monday afternoon as part of its weekly awards announcement.

Booth (Dacula, Ga. / Archer HS) was named Big South Conference Softball Freshman of the Week following a sizzling effort at the plate. In two games last week, Booth batted a robust .556 with two triples, a home run and six RBI – to go with 12 total bases.

She was 1-for-4 with an RBI triple in the 4-2 win over South Carolina State in the opening game of the doubleheader on Wednesday, then exploded for five RBI in the nightcap. She went 4-for-5 with a triple and a three-run home run in the finale – with her round-tripper sealing a five-inning win.

Booth also was perfect in the field, handling all six of her chances at first base without a miscue.

She has been solid in her first season as a starter, batting .292 with three triples and a team-best 10 RBI in 21 games. Her .462 slugging percentage leads the team.

Henson (Gaffney, S.C. / Gaffney HS) posted a 1-0 record with an 0.00 ERA in one appearance last week, coming out of the bullpen to win the opener at South Carolina State.

The freshman righty cruised, allowing just a single and striking out nine in 4.0 innings of shutout relief. She walked one and held the Bulldogs to an .067 batting average for the day – as Gardner-Webb took a 4-2 win in that game.

Henson has gone 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 26.2 innings of work in her first season with the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Gardner-Webb (7-15) gets back on the field Tuesday afternoon, hosting Syracuse at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm at Brinkley Softball Stadium.
