CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb dropped both ends of its Saturday softball doubleheader at Charleston Southern, falling 5-0 in the opening game and 7-3 in the nightcap.
GAME ONE – Charleston Southern 5, Gardner-Webb 0
Charleston Southern's Cheyenne Gandara fired a one-hit shutout to lead the Buccaneers to a 5-0 win over Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon in the first of a three-game series.
It snapped a two-game win streak for the Runnin' Bulldogs (9-19, 2-1 Big South).
The Bucs (15-21) took a 1-0 lead in the first and Gandara made that hold up the rest of the way.
The Runnin' Bulldogs did get a base runner on board in the first, and two on in the fifth via walks, but Gandara held a no hitter into the sixth – when red-hot Megan Gibbons came through with a two-out double. Gandara struck out the next batter, and gave way to Arizona Pilgrim for the seventh inning.
